The Art of Haute Trash

June 14 – 29
Opening Reception June 14, 5 to 9 PM
Fashion show at 7 PM

The E Street Gallery
1115 E Street, Sacramento

After 37 years of producing haute couture runway fashion shows, Haute Trash was very excited to have their very first gallery exhibition in many decades, showcasing fashion created from everyday waste.  From laundry baskets, mouse pads and fencing, to umbrellas, x-rays and produce baskets; you name it. They’ve utilized it all.

As part of the Second Saturday Sacramento art scene, THE ART OF HAUTE TRASH had an opening reception on Saturday, June 14.  Of course it would not be Haute Trash without a fashion show, which was complete with social and environmental commentary, not only entertain but educate with humor and insight.  We gathered up a handful of Sacramento models, along with a few of our veteran models and designers, who traveled from Nevada City to take part in this show. Our emcees were Lotta Rubbish and Stanton Miller.

The E Street Gallery, located at 1115 E Street, is comprised of artists’ studios along with ample gallery space.  We are very grateful to the gallery, and artist and friend Stanton Miller, for offering us this wonderful opportunity to spread the good word!

Waste of the Nation

Saturday, April 26, 2025
Wild Eye Pub
535 Mill St. Grass Valley

Haute Trash presented “Waste of the Nation” at Wild Eye Pub!

This year marks 25 years since Haute Trash performed at the inaugural local Nevada County Earth Day event in 1990 at Bridgeport. In addition to the glorious trash fashions we unveiled on that memorable, misty spring day on the shores of the South Yuba, the enthusiastic audience was treated to music, environmental booths, and words of wisdom from beloved local luminaries Utah Philips and Gary Snyder.

A nonprofit since 2006, over the years Haute Trash has participated in many of the area’s Earth Day events in local parks, and later, at several Earth Day events at Wild Eye Pub. The Pub was delighted to welcome us back, as crusaders of recycling, modeling the good gospel: don’t throw it out, wear it out!

Master of Ceremonies Kenny Miele did the honors of describing our tantalizing runway show. Kenny’s been keeping it real with Haute Trash since the late 1980s! Big thanks to Wild Eye Pub for holding down this awesome venue in our community!

Wasted: A Haute Trash Experience

WASTED: A Haute Trash Experience
October 12, 2024
Nevada Theatre

It had been six years since we’d put on a production of this magnitude! And some say this was our best show ever! “Wasted” featured 40+ all new designs from over a dozen designers, your favorites as well as five new designers! It was back to our roots at the Nevada Theatre, as we celebrated decades of trash fashion with a multi-dimensional show. Cool new graphic video, slide show, dance numbers and skits, it was one for the books!

Haute Trash’s 4th Appearance

Haute Trash really knows we’re doing our job when we inspire others across the nation to rethink their waste as fashion materials! This little midwestern town continues to turn up new designers and fantastic ideas. This year’s show featured over 20 local designs, from artists like Mookie’s Madhouse, CarolWorld, and the Coupon Queen! We also had the participation of students from UCMO’s Fashion Merchandising Department, and nearby Holden High School. Thanks for all the love! Featured here is “Le Carton Roule”, made from cardboard rolls from toilet paper and paper towels. Designed by Christina Ramos and modeled by the lovely Kesha.

Oregon Country Fair!

It was such a thrill to be back at Oregon Country Fair! Our last appearance there had been in 2019, where we presented a show to honor the 50th Anniversary of OCF. We were back in full force, with our second generation of Haute Trash designers really stepping up to the plate! We  presented daily shows at Stage Left and at the StewardShip Stage in Xavanadu Meadow. We featured all-new, epic trash-wear from the fringes of society. Haute Trash reminds you that today is the very best day to take that step towards being the change you want to see in the world. There is no more powerful moment than right now. We hope to inspire you to be aware of your consumption and waste and to become stewards of the natural world around you.
