Haute Trash presents “Planet or Plastic?”
Haute Trash was thrilled to return to our roots: the Nevada Theatre in Beautiful downtown Nevada City, CA. It was 30 years ago, that we performed our infamous “8-8-88” show at the oldest continuously running theatre in California. This was the show where we introduced the name “Hot Trash”, (which later morphed into “Haute Trash” in 1990.) We put on two fantastic shows, celebrating 30 years of trash fashion. We welcomed designers from all around the country and beyond: Vancouver BC, Connecticut, Oregon, Hawaii, Idaho, Colorado, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Jose…as well as our local designers.
Our production also featured a slide show, spanning our 30 year history, and a “Good News Show” with hosts Mikail Graham and Elisa Parker, highlighting some of the GOOD things that are happening for our environment. We offer a big thanks to our two major sponsors: Paint Care, and Grass Valley Courtyard Suites!
Recycle, Restyle, Revamp Fashion Show
Haute Trash was thrilled to turn over the reins of this annual fashion show to the University of Central Missouri’s Fashion and Merchandising Department. Since 2010, Haute Trash members have traveled to Missouri for this Earth Day feature presentation on the UCM campus. We worked in tandem with the University, local schools and many talented local fashion designers to present a show, which has become a UCM favorite over the years.
This year, Haute Trash contributed a handful of designs to the show, via the US Mail! This is a much more eco-friendly way of participating for Haute Trash! Though we really did miss being there, and seeing all the fabulous local designs.
Kudos to the students and staff at UCM for their excellent work, bringing recycling awareness to the midwest!
Blue Marble Jubilee
Haute Trash was once again a feature show at the Blue Marble Jubilee! This colorful, village-style Earth-centered festival for families and the entire community benefits the Grass Valley Charter School. Our models were the fabulous staff and students from the Charter School, sporting our wondrous recycled designs. We were happy to share the bill with local band, Achilles Wheel.
PARC’s presentation of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival
Haute Trash joined with PARC (Protect American River Canyon) in celebrating the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, on tour. We presented a small fashion show in between films. Our models were students from Placer High’s Environmental Club.
Haute Trash has a long-standing collaboration with PARC. For eight years, we performed at their Confluence Festival at Overlook Park in Auburn, CA. We’ve also been extremely lucky to get to the raft the American River with guide Eric Peach.
Haute Trash at Lincoln Soroptimist Fundraiser
Haute Trash once again made an appearance at this wonderful fundraiser for the Lincoln Soroptimists. The luncheon featured our fashion show, and a fabulous purse auction. Modeling for Haute Trash were the local high school students from the Lincoln High School “S Club”.
Proceeds from this fundraiser go towards monetary awards and scholarships for deserving girls, women and families in the Lincoln area.
ESOTERIC: Fashion Show, Art Jams, Vinyl Music Blends
Haute Trash featured some of our more risque designs at this amazing art event at the Ellu Gallery in Grass Valley. Other fashion designers included 8103 Clothing, Azuray Swimwear, Hold Your Colour, and Industrial Nevada City. We performed to a packed house, and a fabulously trashy time was had by all!
Haus of Love: Sustainable Vegan Fashion Show
Haute Trash featured several designs in this first Annual Vegan Fashion Show, presented by the Herbivorous Butcher, a nonprofit farm sanctuary protecting animals from cruelty, abuse, and neglect. They provide a safe place for animals to live out their lives with well-deserved peace and dignity. Proceeds from the show went to help the Herbivorous Butcher to reach their fund raising goals. Haute Trash Designer Lotta Rubbish Featured at Artiszen Fashion Show
April 24, 2017
San Francisco designer Lotta Rubbish (Nic Griffin) represented for Haute Trash at a recent fashion show in Vallejo, at the Artiszen Gallery. The “RE-Fashion Show” was billed as a fashion show with renewed purpose.
In honor of Earth Day, this show presented different ways you can do your part to preserve the Earth’s resources. Whether it’s REcycling trash and turning it into “trashion”, RE-playing fashions from the past, or RE-instilling life into worn clothes with tie dye, these clothes have been RE-invented, RE-purposed, RE-mixed and RE-created into fun, fabulous, and over the top outfits.
The Artiszen Cultural Arts Center is a place for people to gather, create, and enjoy art in all forms. It is a beautiful and elegant addition to the Vallejo arts community. The current show at the gallery (through May 20) is “WISDOM/ART/RESISTANCE: Powered by Women”, an exhibition featuring women over 50. All are welcome! The Artiszen Cultural Arts Center is located at 337 Georgia St, Vallejo, CA.

Blue Marble Jubilee
The Haute Trash fashion show was quite an attraction at the Blue Marble Jubilee. We had teachers, students, and administrators modeling our fabulous recycled fashions. The crowd went wild!
This was the first year of what promises to be a great annual family community festival. A colorful, village-style one-day festival, the Blue Marble Jubilee was an Earth-centered event to inspire, educate and empower people to make a difference in the community and our world. The festival is a fundraiser for Grass Valley Charter School, a unique K-8 school offering an expeditionary and adventure curriculum. “We wanted to create a brand new event that the whole community could enjoy and that shows who we are and what we stand for,” said Wendy Willoughby, President of the Grass Valley Charter School Foundation. “Blue Marble Jubilee celebrates what we love about our learning model; being good stewards of the earth and good stewards of the community.”
UCMO’s Earth Week Kick Off
This was our EIGHTH year performing for the University of Central Missouri’s Earth Day Festival! As the years go by, local designers around Warrensburg have taken on a bigger role in our fashion show. The University’s Fashion Merchandising Department, students from local schools, and community members contributed designs to the show this year. We were at a new venue this year: the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on campus. Big thanks to all our fabulous models!

Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour
Haute Trash performed a short fashion show at this showing of the Wild and Scenic Film Festival at the Auburn State Theater on March 18, 2017. Big thanks to PARC – Protect American River Canyons, for hosting us at this event. Our runway show featured members of Placer High School’s Environmental Club!
The Wild and Scenic Film Festival
Haute Trash was pleased to take part in this year’s Wild and Scenic Film Festival, the country’s largest Environmental Film Festival. We presented a short recycled fashion show, to a packed Stone Hall at the Miners Foundry in Nevada City. We followed up with a brief Q&A with Prima Debris.

Purses With Purpose, A Benefit for Soroptimists International of Lincoln
Haute Trash was the featured entertainment at this benefit luncheon for Soroptimists International of Lincoln. Funds were raised towards monetary awards and scholarships for deserving local girls, women and families in the Lincoln, CA community. Our models were students from Lincoln High School’s “S” Club.
A Show of Support
Haute Trash came out to support our friend Susan Smith in her fight against breast cancer. We performed two sets, jam-packed with local celebrity models, danced to three amazing local bands, and took part in the fabulous auction. The fundraiser was a huge success!
